The New Castle County Department of Community Services Art Show and Reception was held Thursday evening at the Edgemoor Revitalization Cooperative to highlight art work completed by 40 youths at the Art and Pizza Night held at the ERC on June 10.
County Executive Tom Gordon, County Councilman John Cartier, and the Twin Poets (Nnamdi Chukwuocha and Al Mills) were on hand to congratulate the youths. They included Jaylon Eaves (Howard HS) and Zanai Barkley (Mt., Pleasant Elem.), who won 1st and 3rd place respectively in the “What Home Means to Me” art contest held by the Delaware Chapter of the National Association of Housing & Redevelopment Officials.
Earlier this summer, New Castle County Department of Community Services partnered with the Edgemoor Revitalization Cooperative, Inc. to host a pizza party and art event to encourage local youth to participate in the art competition, Community Services General Manager Hanson said. Approximately 40 children attended the event.
“This Youth Art Competition is about celebrating and empowering our youth,” GM Hanson said.
The reception, on Thursday, evening showcased the artwork created at the event and included remarks by Tom Gordon, Councilman Cartier and Sophia Hanson. The attendees were also regaled with entertainment from the Twin Poets.
The art show and reception was held at the Edgemoor Resource Center Garden located at 41 S. Cannon Drive, Wilmington.
