Due to ongoing concerns for the potential transfer of the coronavirus (COVID-19), and under the Governor’s State of Emergency and the CDC’s recommendation to limit gatherings, New Castle County Parks is canceling all gathering permits (sports fields, pavilions, special events, etc.) until further notice. We have also suspended issuing and scheduling new permits at this time.

The parks will remain open to the public for regular use; however, please keep in mind, that play equipment and other park fixtures are not sanitized by the County. For your well-being, playgrounds are temporarily closed. Group gatherings using the picnic areas or covered pavilions, sporting events, and practices are not allowed. Please limit group sizes and remain at least 6 feet from other individuals. Organized games on the basketball courts and sports fields where players come into close contact are prohibited at this time.

New Castle County encourages the public to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) procedures for limiting potential transmission causes. Common procedures include practicing good hygiene by washing hands with soap and water and then using hand sanitizer, avoiding large activities and gatherings, and staying home if you are feeling sick or have a sick family member in the home.

We will continue to monitor the situation, work with the Division of Public Health, and closely follow CDC guidelines.

The Parks Division is responsible for planning, designing and managing parkland, open spaces, natural areas, trails, and pathways. The County has 249 parks covering nearly 6,000 acres of parkland.  Work includes designing and implementing playground, park and landscaping plans; mowing and trimming at all locations; athletic field maintenance and renovations; routine and emergency tree removals; playground maintenance and monthly safety inspections; court game maintenance and inspections; and an assortment of similar duties to maintain parkland.
