 Who is eligible for the Summer Youth Employment Program?

The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is for income eligible youth, ages 14 – 20.

What is the next step after I pick-up my application?

Can I drop off my application at any NCC office or facility?

No. Applications cannot be dropped off and will only be accepted at the SYEP Application Events.

What do I need to bring to the Application Event?

All required and acceptable documentation is outlined in the SYEP application packet.  Documents required to apply for the SYEP include, but are not limited to:

  • Completed and signed SYEP application
  • Driver’s License, State Issued Photo ID or School Issued Photo ID/Registration (registration sheet must include student photo)
  • Income documentation – 2018 W2 OR three (3) most recent pay stubs (see application cover page

What are the income eligibility requirements?

  • The program mandates that preference for employment be given to youth who are members of households whose income does not exceed 200% of poverty level. A predetermined percentage of positions are available for youth who are considered over-income.

For families/households with more than 8 persons, add $4,320 for each additional person.

Must parents/guardians attend the Application Event?

Parents / guardians are welcomed, but are not required to attend the event with their child. However, all youth must have with them the required identification and income documentation necessary for application to the SYEP. Parents / guardians may feel more comfortable bringing that documentation and attending with their child. The application does also require guardian signatures for minor applicants (ages 17 and under).

What are the dates the program runs?

The SYEP runs from June 17 through August 23, 2019.

How will my child find out if he/she has been selected?

All applicants who have submitted complete applications should expect to receive notice of their application status by mail. Staff will not relay any selection information over the phone, so please do not call to obtain the status of your application. All applicants will be notified in writing so please ensure that the correct address is legible on your application. Please be mindful that there are a limited number of available positions and many applications submitted, so don’t be discouraged if you/your child do not get selected. Be ready to apply again next year!
