FREE Women’s Clothing During the Civil War: A look at accepted social and fashion customs followed by most women at the beginning of the war in 1861. The war often changed women’s roles as they became nurses, shop keepers, factory workers, spies and soldiers. Others suffered from war-time shortages, isolation, poverty and widowhood. Did those changes affect their deportment and relax clothing rules by the close of war in 1865? We’ll take a closer look. Presented by Linda Duffy of the Pencader Heritage Area Association.
