Sanitary Sewers

Serving New Castle County's 112,000 sewer customers is no easy task! County residents generate 60+ million gallons of wastewater per day.

To service that need, the County maintains 150 pumping stations, over 40,000 manholes, and more than 1,600 miles of sanitary sewer pipe. If all that pipe was layed end to end, it would form a line that stretched from here to Denver, Colorado!

Special Services employees are on call 24 hours a day, and their duties include everything from maintaining pumping stations and cleaning existing sewer lines, to design
and construction of new lines.
