NEW CASTLE COUNTY EXECUTIVE ANNOUNCES OPENING OF NEWLY EXPANDED AND RENOVATED HOCKESSIN LIBRARY
New Castle, DE - New Castle County Executive Chris Coons announced today that the Hockessin Library will reopen to the public on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 10 a.m. The library closed in December of 2007 for an expansion and renovation project that enlarged the building from 14,600 square feet to 23,000 square feet. The original facility opened in 1994, prior to the automation of the county library system and the significant growth in housing in the Hockessin area. The need for an improved and enlarged facility was established based on the New Castle County Master Plan goals for libraries, and was supported by a state library study on library standards, as well as input from the community.
“Libraries are a central part of our communities, and the Hockessin Library serves as a hub for the community to come together through the special programs and services provided by the staff at the library” said Anne Farley, General Manager of Community Services. “The new library will offer vital services for the whole community, whether they come in for meetings, homework help, to search for jobs online, or attend a program. We are especially pleased with the newly designed space for children will enable expansion of children's programming and materials.”
