Witness to War: Bessie Bringhurst and World War I

Saturday, September 23, 2017

"The Great War"(WWI) has proven to be a global inflection point, transforming the world in a way unintended and unforeseen by its belligerents. The events in the Near East have their roots in the Great War. For the U.S., WWI was it's entry onto the world stage. For Ireland, it created a path of national fulfillment for those in the south, while for the Protestants, it meant secession from that emerging nation state. An eyewitness to it all was Bessie Bringhurst, an American living in Ireland, who recorded how she perceived and reacted to the events of the day. Come join us as we see history through the lens of this remarkable and articulate woman.
