  •  First Friday With Councilwoman Lisa Diller - 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. -  Newark Senior Center.  Please join Councilwoman Diller on the First Friday of each month to discuss topics that are important to you and your community.
  •  Glasgow Park Farmer’s Market - Every Friday from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.  Market season is extended until November 18th!  Come out for an afternoon of “Music at the Glasgow Park” each Friday for good music, local produce, fresh flowers, and so much more!  For more information about the Farmer’s Market, please visit www.nccde.org.
  •  Newark’s “Turkey Trot” Run/Walk - Saturday, November 19, 2016, 8:00 a.m.  The 5K and 10K Runs and 5K Walk will be held on Saturday, November 19th at Handloff Park on Barksdale Rd in Newark.  Pre-race shirt and number pick up at the Parks and Recreation office will be held on Friday, November 18th from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. for those registered by November 11th.  This is a rain or shine event.  For additional information, please call the Newark Parks and Recreation Department at (302) 366-7000 or the Hotline at (302) 366-7147.
  •  Wilmington Jaycees Christmas Parade - Saturday, November 26, 2016, 11:00 a.m.  This year’s Parade will feature: • Local celebrities and dignitaries • Marching and String Bands • Community organizations
    • Floats and attractions • Statewide Pageant Winners • Your Favorite Cartoon Characters, and the Star of the Show – Santa Claus! Elves will be accepting Christmas wish lists from children for Santa.   •  Newark’s “Winterfest” - Friday, December 2, 2016, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  Main Street and Academy Street, Academy Building Lawn.  Winterfest promises to be a wonderful addition to the holiday season. Holiday entertainment, roasting chestnuts, caroling, tree lighting, ice carving demonstrations, and much more will fill this wonderful evening of fun for the whole family.  Winterfest is a joint effort by the Newark Parks and Recreation Department, the University of Delaware, and the Downtown Newark Partnership.  The Delaware Special Olympics will be holding their Annual Reindeer Run in conjunction with Winterfest (www.sode.org).
  •  Santa’s Secret Shoppe & Snack with Santa - Saturday, December 3, 2016, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., at the George Wilson Center.  This cost effective holiday event gives children the opportunity to purchase gifts for family and friends at a pint sized price.  All items will be priced at $5.00 or below.  Get your holiday on with Santa!  Join Santa at his Secret Shoppe and enjoy finding presents, making crafts, eating snacks, and playing games!  For more information please call (302) 366-7000. 

Biography

Lisa Diller is a long term resident of Newark and the former pastor of the Christiana Presbyterian Church in historic Christiana Village. Lisa Diller is married to John Tobin. Lisa and John attended the University of Delaware as undergraduates and they returned to the community because they thought it would be a great place to raise their family. They live with their daughter Mei in Newark.

Experience


Lisa's experience with both nonprofit organizations and government agencies gives her management experience and an understanding of the importance of constituent services. She served as the administrator for the State of Delaware's Office of Volunteerism where she managed a multimillion dollar budget. She is a member of the Governor's Commission on Community and Volunteer Service. She also holds a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary and teaches at several local colleges.

Objectives


Lisa's objectives are to provide a cost effective and responsive service delivery, promote sustainable growth, and develop regional partnerships to bring jobs and transportation to residents.
