Local residents and business owners were invited to an important event to help make the Route 9 corridor a safer, more attractive, and more pedestrian friendly place.

WILMINGTON, DE – Wilmington Area Planning Council (WILMAPCO) held a Walkable Community Workshop, sponsored by New Castle County Department of Community Services.  Making the Route 9 corridor (South of Wilmington) more pedestrian friendly was the focus of a three-hour workshop held on  Tuesday, May 5, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Rose Hill Community Center.

Sophia Hanson, General Manager of the Department of Community Services, said, “Creating a walkable neighborhood is a priority.  The Route 9 corridor faces many challenges, but a safe pedestrian and biking environment will improve overall quality of life for the local residents.”  The Walkable Community Workshop concentrated on identifying real-world problems and offering hands-on solutions for the Route 9 corridor.  The Walkable Community Workshop was a key initiative of the Route 9 Innovation District Plan.
